For Anna Sui’s Spring-Summer 2019 show, Garren designed two brilliant hair looks by riffing on and enhancing Sui’s theme of magical wanderlust, fairy tales and her direct inspiration from the 1955 movie, Kismet. To frame and enhance Sui's ethereal collection and the show's decadent bazaar scene, Garren put half the models in a Down and Centered look and half in a modern Rockabilly style with a messy front bun. His idea was to make the girls seem like travelers in a distant wonderland with hair that was natural and free, yet completely modern.

The beauty of these hairstyles comes from Garren’s ability to pull from the past to recreate the present. Garren’s modern Rockabilly is an update of the iconic Rockabilly bun of the 1950’s - a half-bun created near the front hairline. For the show, he left the bun loose, with a half-up and half-down look, finishing with Motorcycle Flexible Gel for form and Neon Lights Dry Oil Spray for a light smoothing and separation. For the Down and Centered style, Garren was inspired by a gypsy vibe, parting the hair in the middle for a natural feel and then nuancing with Waterfall Moisture and Shine Lotion and Motorcycle Flexible Gel for form.

Watching Garren as he thinks and works is as inspiring as it is educational.
